The Muse Early Learning Center was created through collaborative partnership between the Children’s Museum of Tacoma and the University of Washington Tacoma. Korsmo’s work included a remodel of the existing 5,000 square foot basement of the Children’s Museum to create this new learning environment. The Muse is a state-of-the-art, licensed child care facility, modeled on the Reggio Emilia technique, which emphasizes a child-centered approach to early learning.
The project included an open concept design including a mud room, classrooms, reading nooks, a piazza, play areas and sliding barn doors to facilitate a flexible learning environment. This Team-Build project facilitates an environment that allows children an open-ended exploratory approach to learning and art that encourages investigation and interactions with both indoor and outdoor elements.
