Providing social services administration in a modern and functional setting is being accomplished through the SPIPA Professional Center. The facility is owned by the Squaxin Island Tribe and operated by the South Puget Intertribal Planning Agency (SPIPA), a consortium of the Squaxin Island, Skokomish, Chehalis, Nisqually and Shoalwater Bay Tribes. Korsmo’s team had to work collaboratively with these various stakeholders to ensure each of their needs were met.
Designing a highly functional and attractive building in a natural setting was an enriching and rewarding experience. The building’s design blends well with its natural surroundings, combining a wood frame with storefront windows, metal roof and rough-sawn cedar siding.
