The work performed consisted of new construction of a design-build acoustical research lab, pier and floating pontoon for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division. This included construction of a new 23,000 SF two-story laboratory building, built to house laboratories, office spaces, open work stations, conference rooms, SCIF Rooms, kitchen and dining area, restrooms that included showers and lockers, and a receiving area sized to accommodate airline sized shipping containers. Its steel-framed structure features metal siding and pitched standing seam roof, exterior cladding, overhead coiling doors, windows that meet current anti-terrorism force protection guidelines and code egress requirements, gypsum wall board systems topped with acoustics coating, rolling partitions to separate conference rooms, SCIF security systems with keypad access, an elevator, and full mechanical and electrical systems.
Set on the pontoon, the Ships Services and Stores building is a 4,200 SF metal building to provide a shop, welding area and diver warming tank. Construction of this building included structural steel, fireproofing, metal siding, standing seam sloping metal roof, roll-up door for forklift access, insulation, heating and ventilation to provide moisture protection and prevent freezing, and electrical system.
