Our experienced Safety Team is committed to proactive planning, eliminating all potentially unsafe situations before a project breaks ground. Korsmo continually invests time and resources in proper training for all field personnel, including assisting with proper qualifications and certifications for subcontractors. Strong communication and continuous monitoring are cornerstones of our safety success, and help ensure that we complete each job accident-free.

Instead of relying solely on a “top-down” approach, we have worked hard to instill a positive attitude toward job site safety in every Korsmo team member. Whether a new employee, subcontractor or experienced carpenter, we empower and expect all team members to take initiative by fixing potential hazards before an accident occurs. This has resulted in strong relationships among crews and a genuine concern at the individual level for the safety of all workers, project owners and members of the public.

Our company-wide Safety and Accident Prevention Program includes:

  • Zero tolerance for serious safety violations: immediate removal from the project
  • Weekly visits by Site Safety Manager with detailed audits
  • Mandatory Job Hazard Analysis for all tasks
  • Ongoing and pre-task training for safety procedures and regulations
  • In-house incentive program that rewards employees for the number of safe hours accumulated
  • Safety orientations conducted prior to anyone beginning work on site
  • Daily “Stretch and Flex” program to prevent strains and sprains
  • Drug Testing Program
  • DOSH and OSHA code compliance
  • Daily job site cleaning

Case Study

Russell T. Joy Building

Prior to construction on the Joy Building, it was determined that there was a potentially high risk excavation process that would occur adjacent to a main pedestrian pathway. The excavation was part of a process to build a large below grade retaining wall abutting an existing unreinforced masonry wall of questionable structural integrity. Our team successfully mitigated these risks by eliminating the deep excavations for the new retaining wall. Instead, we devised a system of drilled piers and grade beams that reinforced the old brick wall below grade and supported new foundations above. This solution provided a safer environment while also saving time and money.

Self Performed Work

Along with site supervision, safety and construction management services, Korsmo frequently self-performs scopes of work such as structural building concrete, foundations, steel installations and carpentry in order to ensure the best possible product is delivered to our owners.
