Korsmo Construction led Bethel School District through its first GC/CM project with this major addition and modernization of the fully occupied and operational Graham-Kapowsin High School (GKHS).
The project consisted of extensive renovation and addition of three new academic wings to the existing building, totaling 54,708 square feet of new and remodeled space. The work expanded the athletic, academic, music, science, student services areas, career center, and counseling center, and replaced 11 portables with a new academic wing. The improvements also included a new healthcare facility with an independent entrance to serve the students and school community.
Korsmo created phased, early bid packages to meet the condensed schedule. The team optimized phasing and identified site logistics and student circulation routes during each phase to ensure safety and mitigate impact on school operations. We worked with the design team to explore materials and systems throughout design to optimize schedule, lead times, and ensure budget. The phased construction included temporary walls to protect students and staff from the construction.
