The brick and masonry design blends with the Tudor Gothic style of current buildings and provides communal areas lit by floor-length windows with views of Mount Rainier and the campus. The five-story residence hall contains 135 student dormitories, a 150-seat meeting room, three classrooms, four student study rooms, a kitchen, living area, bathrooms and laundry facilities. A pillared walkway and outdoor courtyard are designed to support learning themes.
The 55,000 square foot structure is constructed of concrete foundations, metal decks, brick veneer, copper roofing, and aluminum windows and curtain walls. Commencement Hall was designed to meet the US Green Building Council’s LEED standards, and is currently under review for LEED Silver certification. Korsmo Construction was brought onto the project early in the design process and was able to work with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson collaboratively to tailor the design to the University’s budget.
