This $25 million, 35,000-square-foot renovation and expansion of the Quinault Beach Resort Casino included the addition of a non-smoking casino floor, a 250-seat restaurant with buffet service, VIP suites, a circular bar, installation of electrical and plumbing systems, and updated kitchen facilities and restrooms. Prominent cedar statues, sculptures, and designs by local tribal artists are featured throughout the space, paying homage to Salish/Quinault artistic traditions. The circular bar is equipped with built-in slots and an elevated stage to provide entertainment options.
In order to isolate noise and avoid disruption to casino patrons during construction, Kormso built temporary walls to limit impact, so business could continue as usual. Other challenges involved the unique location of the site, situated between the Pacific Ocean and a wetland. High groundwater levels required dewatering of the construction perimeter to be completed before laying down the foundation. Despite an aggressive construction schedule, this project was completed on time and under budget.
